The “Lean & Green” approach: organization and sustainability as pillars of the successful enterprise

War to waste: this is the motto of many companies that have started a lean transformation and are waging war against the seven basic wastes identified by that methodology.

But almost invariably Lean projects have focused on increasing flexibility, efficiency and customer service without paying much attention to other kinds of waste which are not only a damage to the environment but also a cost for the company. They have also overlooked the fact that the ever growing environmental consciousness of consumers is an important factor of competitiveness and success.

GC&P’s methodology “Lean and Green” combines Lean principles and environmental sustainability.

The motto of the new approach “Lean & Green” is “war to all wastes” and it entails to add to the classic 7 wastes to combat a new one: environmental waste. Becoming a zero emission company and reducing energy consumption makes a company even more efficient and competitive.

Applying “Lean and Green” methodology is a great business opportunity: first of all because it reduces costs due to waste and emissions and in addition because it strengthens the company’s reputation and image in a market that is becoming more and more conscious of the important of environmental preservation.
