Lean Transformation is helpful to inter-generational transfer
Among the main challenges small and medium sized companies have to face, two are presently the most critical ones: intergenerational transfer and competitiveness. In the past these challenges have been seen as two different and separate problems and very few entrepreneurs have realized that they can be seen together as a unique opportunity to innovate and increase competitiveness.
StudioCentroVeneto, GC&P and APINDUSTRIA Vicenza have devised a new, innovative and integrated way to face these themes with the purpose to turn two serious risks into a great opportunity (In algebra minus by minus gives plus).
As a consequence they have started a medium term action plan with a clear goal: Empower the role of those who are called to continue the enterprise, turning them into innovators and protagonists of a lean transformation project that brings about significant and clearly visible short term benefits for the company.
In this way the new entrepreneur receives not only an investiture from the family, but gets the respect of the whole company and establishes in a highly credible way his or her own leadership.
THE LABORATORIES
The main purpose of our “Laboratories” is to help enterprises who want to make the most of the possible synergies between intergenerational transfer and lean transformation.
The working plan of a laboratory includes four steps:
1. Set up of the working team (normally people from 4-5 companies)
2. Two training sessions on generational transfer and lean transformation for all team members
3. Four practical sessions at each company to apply what has been learned and plan future developments
4. A final session of debate and evaluation of the experience made
After this the laboratory could continue to support companies according to their specific needs and help them to manage the transformation process and to monitor its results.
During the practical sessions we work on the two basic aspects:
Intergenerational transfer: we help both senior and junior entrepreneurs to seriously reflect on the implications of intergenerational transfer and on the opportunity offered by a lean transformation process to increase competitiveness and establish the leadership of the junior entrepreneur.
Lean Thinking: we provide a practical interactive training on the principles and methods of lean transformation and we apply them starting at least one lean transformation “yard” .
